You disliked Radiant Dawn for having many similar characters, yet you liked Shadow Dragon, which practically throws 5 units at you every map?
As for the length, I really loved that. Long games are great, and it managed to never become repetitive, as it changes the units and setting all the time. No two maps are the same.
Shadow Dragon is essentially the same all the time. If you can control many opponents in a large group, you can win rather easily. It's more of an Advance Wars than a Fire Emblem. If you preferred SD over RD, you really should try Advance Wars, Smash.
