I don't think that you are the right person to judge Nintendo, because I doubt that you have played most of their games in the past decades. You don't know enough about the subject to participate in a serious discussion. Not enough about their history, not enough about their games. Keep that in mind when you want to continue the argument. *EDIT: That was probably too condesceding, so ignore it.* An early example of a crappy Nintendo game made for the sake of money would be Donkey Kong 3. It had the popular name, but wasn't anything like the previous two titles. The game was so poor that it's hard to argue that it was more than a cash in. The original Super Mario Bros. 2 (Lost Levels in the Western World) is another example of a lazy effort with the goal to make money off of the popularity of a previous game. How should Nintendo have known how well Wii Fit would sell? There wasn't a real precedent for that kind of game and the few fitness games that were made before by other companies were largely ignored. So how do you make a cash in on something that doesn't have a proven market yet? Remember, most people thought Nintendo was crazy for making Wii Fit. Wii Music wasn't purposefully lacking, it's just that Nintendo went with a concept that later on proved to be the wrong approach on music games. You could definitely argue that Nintendo relied too much on the Wii brand name to sell this, but as I have pointed out above, they have been guilty of this before. Are they beginning to get greedy though? With games like Sin & Punishment 2, Other M and many titles on a small scale still in the works, i.e. games that won't sell millions upon millions, it doesn't look like Nintendo is more and more looking for ways to milk consumers as much as they can. |
I hate it when I say controversial things and then defend them despite agreeing with them less and less.
Anyway, I suppose my memory of Nintendo would be selective. I've only ever played the good Nintendo games. But yeah, I now agree that Nintendo have always been greedy bastards just kidding.
I suppose you're right about Wii Fit, but I stand by Wii Music being a blatant milking of the Wii franchise.
Having said that, I concede defeat. Damn you RolStoppable!
