You want the console/TV/computer/any electronic early, you pay the highest price. That's the way it's always worked. Buy a PS3 for $600 in 2006, you can get one for $300 in 2009. Buy a TV for $1000, a few years later, it'll be $500.
EDIT: I remember when a 1GB SD card was some £40, and now a £16GB SD card is around £10. It's just the way the industry works.
