The PS3 will certainly get a boost in the upcoming weeks... maybe even a huge one if many Sony fans decide to sell their fat PS3s to buy the Slim, and depending on how many people were holding out for the $299 price obviously.
But as always, what matters is not the initial boost, but the continued momentum. Does the price cut convince a whole new demographic to buy the PS3? I don't think so, not any more than the previous price cuts did.
The mainstream console is the Wii, and that's not gonna change with a simple PS3 price cut. Software is where it's at.
