| TheThunder said: People saying anything other than the US are really crazy, Sorry !! If we are talking about the whole gaming industry then by far the US has been the greatest contributor and it's not even close. Even when the market was dominated by Japanese consoles who do you think designed the hardware Tech inside those console ? Who do you think created the first Video game, Arcade game, Game console ? Who do you think created the first 3D polygon and created real 3D graphics ? and lastly Who designed the CPU and GPU for all the consoles on the market today ? The answer to above is the US clear and simple. Every genre that is poplar today was born by a US dev even RPGs the only genre Japan created is probably rape games !! I'm telling you guys if you want to look at it in an objectively matter than any answer other than the US is a wrong answer, sorry. |
I would disagree with that.
Sure, the US may have created the technology. But let's look at the actual games and consoles.
Nintendo- Japanese
Sega- Japanese
Sony- Japanese
Pac-Man
Mario
Zelda
Gran Turismo
Final Fantasy
Every other Square game
Metal Gear Solid
At least on consoles, the industry-defining games have been Japanese. Look at any "Most Influential Characters in Gaming" list- the majority will be from Nintendo, who is Japanese. You'll also usually see Pac-Man. Japanese. Snake. Japanese.
Really, was there anything like Mario before Mario released? Pac-Man? Zelda? Sure, there were plenty of games like Zelda. The majority of which were made by Square. Japanese.
America does not come close to Japan.
EDIT: I will also throw this in:

You have to go down to 11th place to find a non-Japanese console, and this console was released just four years ago. Then another in 12th, then 14th, then another at 22nd, and after that, we're below 10 million sales. That's right, everything from 1st-10th, 13th, and 15th-21st place was made in Japan.
