casual/hardcore dichotomy is really quite poor, it's like saying films are either hollywood summer blockbusters or art films
Would people like Billy Mitchell, the man considered to be the best classic game player on earth not qualify as hardcore because he can't stare at MMO rpg for a week at a time, but yet I'd like to see these "hardcore" players last over 2 minutes at donkey kong seriously they wouldn't
yet anyone can pick up and play donkey kong,
same with pac man, or galaga,
it's happened before the games that are easy to play but are challenging to master
same with the 2d fighting games
times when the line between hardcore and casual has been blurred in the past, and it will be again
though with the wii I see it becoming in part a lifestyle sub industry in and of itself
