What if we put the filters that are currently on the Popular Stories box also onto the Latest Headlines box? Then you can just look at Sales, Features, etc at your leisure. Also the Popular Stories box is basically a way to be able to only look at the "important" news, since it'd be what floats to the top. |
For me that'd be great, but Im still thinking about how others use the site. I think most web sites guide the readers in a way, maybe without the visitors even realizing it, to what's regarded as 'important' to read. They sort stuff for you. So maybe most people wouldn't use such a filter because they would follow what is 'default'.
I think it's sad that some articles disappear so quickly from the 'headlines' menu (which has like the 15 latest news) in top middle of the page. Often it's even physically hard to find a news article from a few days back if I want to go back and check out the comments or something, because I have to skim through so many pages (you know when a new page opens up with 'Video Game News' after I've clicked on 'Latest Headlines (8 in last 24 hours)').*
On some other sites (I don't know how they do it, how they sort) I find it a lot easier to track and follow a particular news article and it's comments page during the following few days.
* actually I can find them, but they are always dead within 24 hours, without any person having commented since I last read the article. So, the active lifetime of articles on VGC is extremely short.
