Don't be ridiculous. A consumer doesn't think "Hmm, $99 PS2 or $399 PS3? What? No PS2? Okay, I'll buy the PS3". The average consumer would just buy a 360 or a Wii if the PS2 wasn't available. Perhaps if the PS3 was cheaper and HAD BACKWARDS COMPATIBILITY with the PS2, this might come close to achieving something (probably wouldn't). Perhaps when the PS3 reaches $199. And is making a profit. Sony would rather make money than lose it, so really, they WANT the PS2 to outsell the PS3 for now. Why cut the most successful console of all time, which is profitable, to boost the sales of a significantly less successful console which loses money?
