Obviously I had to vote Nintendo.
EDIT to expand,
Obviously the NES and SNES were great consoles, but the real decision maker came during the N64 era. Nintendo supported 4-player natively since the N64, which was a must for my family with us 3 kids and friends coming over all the time. Also, the N64 used carts and had better 3D graphics than the PS1 (with exception of FMV which I think is generally a bad thing). The GC continued the 4-player support, and again was the superior hardware tech wise and remained cheaper than the PS2. While the PS1&2 stole most of the software, the N64 and GC were the better hardware in my eyes. The XBox was also decent hardware but it had a shortened life.
