I still remember how angry gamers were when this game was released. I am glad Nintendo did not abandon the series completely and eventually released "A Link to the Past".

You are so wrong, I can't express how wrong you are in words. Zelda II is the best Zelda ever. You just aren't hardcore enough to beat it.
Now, if you want to talk about a bad sequel, go figure out what came after Sonic & Knuckles. I'm sure it was horrid and Sonic has never been the same since.
