despite coming from a LCD tv website, this is a fairly good explanation of the advantages of each

One important factor to consider when buying a Plasma it to make sure it is actually the resolution you want. I was poking around some plasmas and they have a 42" tv with a native resolution of 1024 x 768 which isn't even 720p. So just be careful to make sure you know what you are buying. Again, as I say everywhere else when it comes to electronics, you really need to go and look at the TV before buying it to see if you are happy with the picture. If you can watch side by side from the same source, then that is the best, and then buy the one you think looks the best and is within your price range.
