Negative reviews of DQ IX will adversely affect DQ X's sales, no matter what the preorder awesomeness of DQ IX was. Running a hot franchise into the ground is foolish, no matter how you look at it. DQ IX's continued sales would likely be even higher, if it was well received, don't you agree?
As an example, an American company named Trilobyte made one of the first successful CD-ROM titles, called "The 7th Guest". They made a sequel called "The 11th Hour" which had a colossal number of pre-orders (over a half million, which was titanic at the time -- I believe it was actually a pre-order record breaker in the mid 90s). The game had horrid reviews. They never got any more orders for the title, and the company went out of business a couple years later.
So yes, it matters, unless you're an investor in S-E and are planning on selling your shares ASAP.
