That is exactly what shouldn't happen, and the reason there are friend codes in the first place. (online security) |
Online codes are there because nintendo has taken the family friendly approach to online gaming. Call it online security, but it just sounds like you're spinning a bad online system. As an adult, I prefer online systems that don't treat me like i'm a 5 year old, thinking that I need someone to hold my hand for any online interaction. Services like XBL, PSN and Steam are better because they make it easier to get online and offer multiple ways to communicate with friends. Third parties seem to share the same feeling considering the number of online-enabled games on those services versus online Wii games.
Wii online is pretty much on par with PS2 online in that there is no unifed system, online features are game specific, and it's convoluted and disjointed approach because there are seperate logins or friend codes for each game. I enjoyed PS2 online just fine at the time, but having now used services like PSN and Steam, I'd never go back to something like that.
