I have to agree with this-- Timothy Dalton almost killed the franchise. As for Daniel Craig-- I currently think he is the second best bond (behind Sean Connery), however Quantum of Solace was, and I'm being generous, average. I hope he follows through on the promise of Casino Royale and we see how Bond becames Bond (preferably the Sean Connery's Bond). Also, they need to reintroduce Q and Moneypenny! My fear is that we will have a Pierce Brosnan repeat-- the first movie is excellent, the rest are bad to average. |
I agree that Dalton was not well recieved and this hurt the franchise, but I don't think that it was because he was bad. It's because he was the most serious Bond up until that time and he followed wannabe comedian Roger Moore. He was so different that he suffered severe backlash. I know that I may catch some heat for this but I actually prefer him to Brosnan. GoldenEye was a good movie but his other three Bond movies probably rank among the top five worst in the franchise in my opinion. I realize that the writers didn't do him any favors but a good actor can make something bad seem better than it is. Imagine anyone but Sean Connery in Diamonds Are Forever for instance. That movie would have been terrible but his performance made it a pretty good one. Daniel Craig has done a good job with the material that he has been given. When all is said and done he may wind up being my second favorite Bond.
