Wii Sports isn't going to be remembered as better than anything other than a 7.6 that managed to gain quite a bit of sales do the real things that were driving the Wii's early faddish success. These real factors had quite a bit do with the fact that it was cheaper than 360 and PS3 at launch. Quite a bit of that early success can also be contributed to the scarcity factor. Due to the fact that it was hard to get the system especially during its first two years and in particular at the holiday season the Wii had heightened demand due to the difficulty of being able to find one in stores and this demand led to interest on the parts of others in the console due to the fact that it was supposed to be hard to find and cheap. And that was the recipe for the Wii's early success. It had very little to do with Wii Sports but quite a bit to do with the combination of cheap price and the cabbage patch, tickle me elmo, 360 being hard to find in stores in Christmas '05 so people shelling out thousands of dollars on ebay auctions for them effect. |
LOL! We are using terms like "Faddish" to describe the Wii after its been dominating the Market for going on 3 yrs now? Unbelievable. Scarcity was manufactured? So Selling the most consoles in a yearly period EVER isn't a good enough explanation. You are dellusional to think Wii Sports will just be remembered as a "faddish game" It is symbolic of the evolution of interface and bringing motion controls to the forefront. I don't know which fanboy category you fall into whether its 360 or PS3 but do you really think they'd go the Motion Controlled route were it NOT for the Wii? And just curious, what do you think of Natal and The Purple Airline Landing equipment?
Bet between Slimbeast and Arius Dion about Wii sales 2009:
If the Wii sells less than 20 million in 2009 (as defined by VGC sales between week ending 3d Jan 2009 to week ending 4th Jan 2010) Slimebeast wins and get to control Arius Dion's sig for 1 month.
If the Wii sells more than 20 million in 2009 (as defined above) Arius Dion wins and gets to control Slimebeast's sig for 1 month.
