you should be covered under some kind of warranty for 60-90 days, so it is about the same as buying a refurbished item. Sometimes people return things because they are broken, but they don't say they are broken. If that is the case, you have a short while to test out every feature and they'll replace it. Also, you should be able to report missing items right away and they should fix that too.
Most open box items are probably people who bought it, then didn't like it and there is nothing wrong with it. However, they can't sell it as new so they sell it as open box.
If you have no problem buying refurbished (I buy a lot of refurbished) then you should have no problem buying an open box item. Just inspect it very carefully as soon as it arrives and report any problem immediately.
