What are you talking about? SMB3's ending is a classic! It's probably the best way they could have ended it. Personally, I love those kind of self-references and pseudo-breaking of the fourth wall.
Now, ironically enough, Galaxy (the best 3D Mario) might have the worst ending, in my opinion. It simply does not live up to the rest of the game's standards. During those climactic final minutes, Galaxy treats us to a red-herring of a villain "masterplan", several non-sequiturs and, to top it off, one of the worst cases of deus ex machina ever seen in a video game. Not even Sunshine was that bad!
I suppose it might have been done intentionally, as a parody, but either way it just pissed me off. And for that I say: Shame on you, Yoshiaki Koizumi.
I'm still more hyped for Galaxy 2 than NSMB Wii, though. I just didn't like the DS game very much.
