Your TV is surely to blame for the lag. Does your TV have a game mode to improve response time?

 

What NJ5 said is really important.  I game on a HD CRT TV and knew nothing of lag until i played on my friends Bravia, i couldn't believe he had been gaming on it, the lag was instantly noticeable and really disruptive for me even before firing up a game.  A quick switch to gaming mode was all that was needed, improved the situation immeasurably.

OT: I've had two sets of component cables (2 TV's), Nintendo's and a cheaper 3rd party set, sorry but i can't remember the brand.  The cheap cables look and feel cheaper but perform exactly the same.
