You know what's the dumbest thing about this closing the Wii sales gap. Is that the less numerical cruncher will actually believe that the 360 is catching up in sales. I know this because my wife actually thinks 360 is catching up. She listens to the SA forums a lot rather than any serious market discussion. This has led her to a firm belief that
Wii has had a dramatic decrease in sales that the other systems have been going up and are passing the Wii. Each.
This belief is so firm that she doesn't even listen to the numerical facts.
I think it's obvious that a closing the sales gap doesn't actually have any reference to catching up in sales. Just because your not out distancing by 10:1 and now only 2:1 doesn't mean your still not outdistancing.
Regardless Nintendo is in control. They have been planning methods to keep the Wii sales "excited". That's why the Black Wii is coming out. While I won't be upgrading, others will and some people who have been waiting will also buy. If they time it's release to the starting of the next wave of games(later this year). It will do really well. Similar to DSLite -> DSi.
Squilliam: On Vgcharts its a commonly accepted practice to twist the bounds of plausibility in order to support your argument or agenda so I think its pretty cool that this gives me the precedent to say whatever I damn well please.
