They are. Smash Bros. reinvented the fighting genre and took it to the next level. Even if Smash Bros. hadn't used the Nintendo cast, I think it still would have been an awesome game because the gameplay is so unique.


I don't know about "took it to the next level." I see it as more like 'took it in a new direction'. Nintendo is good at creating new game types, and it helps them by finding untapped demand, as detailed in an article I refer to here. (/shameless plug)

Eh, that's a debate of semantics. Let's just agree it's awesome.


Well, I can certainly agree it's awesome, but semantics can be important. PS2-->PS3, "next level"; GC-->Wii, "new direction".
