In my opinion fanboys/loyalists are the life/blood of any major software developer!
Look at Sega's platform's from Saturn to DreamCast they were almost entirely supported by Fanboys/Loyalists. Many third parties benefitted from this look at UbiSoft on the DreamCast EA's choice to abandon the platform left UbiSoft a monopoly. Many other third parties also benefitted from the die hard fan's who stcuk with the console despite all odds. Infact DreamCast continued selling third party games untill late last year, the harcore fanboy crowd continued loyaly supporting their Sega platform (Japan).
The GameCube sold very poorly in the first few years, the die hard fanbase and Loyalist user base supported the software on GameCube. This turned into a highly successful market for Sega who's Sonic games sold better on GameCube then any other platform. other companies found minor to huge success on GameCube with their titles too. Titles like BatenKaitos and Resident Evil were supported by the massive loyal Nintendo user base who chose the GameCube version over the PlayStation2 version despite added content!
I actually believ that Loyalists expecially are the life behind third party sales and intern the majority of a consoles software sales! Why? While hardcore gamers blow money on all three or two platform'sLoyalists concentrate on a single platform all that money that would have been spent on another consoleare instead spent on more games. This means more sales for third parties. A third party doesn't make any money when you buy a new game console they only make money when you buy thir games. This leads me to believe that third parties are actually helped greatly by peoples choice to stick with a single console!
