For me, its the story, plus the genre. I'm a big adventure game person, and also very big into fantasy/medieval settings. This is why the Final Fantasy series pissed me off - addition of things like Airships, etc and technology aspects don't really mesh well into the fantasy setting well for me.
Plus Link is one of my favorite all time characters. Its sort of like Die Hard fans - people who like John McClain (Bruce Willis) like to see what new things happen to him.
Your question is like asking what's so great about Metal Gear Solid, or Halo, or God of War, etc. You're either into it or not.
