The Wii really doesn't need third party content to drive sales, but they do need it to help fill out the library.
There is some good third party stuff coming though ... The Conduit, Little King Story, Monster Hunter 3, Resident Evil: Dark Side Chronicles, Murumasa: Demon Blade, Boom Blox Party, Red Steel 2, Spyborgs, Ghostbusters, Grand Slam Tennis, Tiger Woods 10, Rabbids platformer, Final Fantasy: Crystal Bearers, Tales of Graces, etc. all look decent.
Nintendo hasn't had that many good looking 3rd party games coming out in a small period of time since the SNES days really.
Wii Ware is getting some cool stuff like that Soldier RTS game, Final Fantasy IV: The After, and that new Contra.
I expect the Wii to be more like the DS in terms of third party support/quality. Which is fine with me. I think Square-Enix could do more to support the Wii, they're the one company (along with Capcom) that I think if they did more on the platform they would make a lot of money.
Dragon Quest and Final Fantasy remakes, Kingdom Hearts: Birth By Sleep, Final Fantasy Dissidia, etc. would do well on the Wii. Third parties just gotta figure out what works and what doesn't and some of them are getting better at it.
