No, they're meant to do what Nintendo did in 2003. Recognize they've made a mistake and rethink their strategy, not only with the PS3 but their future game systems. This cannot be done properly if you're in denial, or trying to convince people you're still the sustaining leader.
In 2003, regardless of all the doom and gloom the markets aggravated on Nintendo for recognizing their mistakes, the Gamecube had a great holiday season and one of its best selling years. And they successfully set a precedent in the Chinese market with the iQue that year. Which believe it or not enabled them to properly develop their Wii strategy, which was also established that year along with the DS.
If you keep addressing the public and calling forth a comeback, not only are you making the markets rest on their laurels by delaying their pressure which will conflict with your interests later on. But also you're making your internal employees rest on their laurels. It doesn't matter how hard you work if your motivations and objectives are all in the wrong places, and that's the whole point of it. You have to recognize you're doing it wrong before you start doing it right, you can't just call forth a "comeback" out of the winds. You have to make it happen the way it is done, and I'm sorry but it's just not the way they're doing it.
