Then your church or temple of whatever can help you learn how to act true to your faith,  and provide a community of loving support that will help you become a better person. 

This really saddens me Andrew.  First of all, you cannot be a better person, the Bible tells us that there is none good, no not one.  There are no good people and you cannot possibly be good because your heart is black with Sin.  Second, you cannot get to heaven just any way you want to either, you have to go God's way.  That way is through repentance and trust in His only Son Jesus Christ that died on the cross.  Apart from Christ, there is no hope.  Clinging to your religion will do you know good.  You really need to read through the book of John.
