Unsure, but from my retail experience, at least 2 to 3 games were bought on a normal week with a console sale.

During the holiday, I saw people buying an average of 4-6 games with the console purchase.

Thats interesting, so what do most new Wii owners do? Do they grab one or two mainline Nintendo titles like Wii Play and Mario Kart and then maybe 1-2 other games, chosen based on taste and what grabs them visually?

Yes, they do (in my experience). People would come in to buy the Wii Sports. Then usually grab Mario Kart and Wii Play.

You'd also see a Madden or Smash go with a purchase a lot as well.
