Actually, no. The first Xbox ended its short life netting Microsoft a total profit of.... over minus 4.5 BILLION dollars. The gamecube sold a little less yes, but Nintendo didn't lose money or nowhere near that kind of money.
Ask Microsoft what would they have preffered : finishing in a prettier " 2nd place in market-share" selling some thousand units more but with a loss of over 4.5 billions or finishing "last" selling a little less but staying in the black or very close to it?
though decision, right? NOT!
