Square Enix merger didn't help the gaming industry

How exactly was that a result of the merger? The merger happed early last generation, and SE games were almost entirely single platform still and continued to be until this generation started, when a select few titles(under 10%, maybe under 5%) ended up single patform on an underperforming console in Japan.
