In Japan yes clearly. In the US/Europe certainly not. People convienantly gloss over even though the Wii was slightly down this March from last March, the Wii's March 2009 numbers from NPD are still the second highest in NPD history (last year's Wii March obviously no.1 thanks to Smash Bros Brawl).
So it's not only no.1 here, it's selling much faster than the PS1, PS2 or any other game console here before it. That's without a single solitary price cut.
In Japan they need to push the hell out of Wii Sports Resort, Monster Hunter 3, Tales of Graces, Final Fantasy: Crystal Bearers, Samurai Warriors 3, Mario & Sonic Winter Olympics, and if they have them -- Pikmin 3 and Wii Fit Plus for the second half of the year.
Sony had a much stronger library for Japan in the 1st half of 2009, Nintendo only released like Another Code 2 (lol). But Nintendo looks to have a much stronger lineup for the 2nd half of 2009.
We'll see. If you want to bet against Iwata ... go right ahead.
