Nintendo's E3 2008 presentation was a preemptive response to a market invasion that didn't happen. Let's not forget that rumors of an XBOX 360 "game wand" and a PS3 "split controller" were rampant at the time, even though all rumors of either have since disappeared. Had either surfaced, MS and/or Sony would be making an attempt to invade Nintendo's market, requiring defense. But there was no game wand, no split controller. Nintendo lashed out at nothingness, and ended up looking very silly as a result.
