if nintendo's mascot wasnt mario then who else would be the best choice?

Pikachu isn't going to translate to some of the other games nearly as well. He just wouldn't quite work in Tennis, The olympics, Golf, soccer or so many of Mario's other sports.

Would be interesting to see him in a platformer though.

 

 I can see him being in all the Mario sports games.
