To be honest, I'd be happiest if they dumped Resistance and either focused on Ratchet and Clank or made a new, BETTER IP. Not an FPS. They could try a TPS there.
However, if they continue with Resistance, it should remain an FPS. It has some good ideas, it just has some really bad ideas to go along with them. It needs tweaking, that's all.
