Funny: It's not like the Playstation 3 offered the same value as the Xbox 360. It has a Blu-Ray player included, thus the value is higher which makes up for the higher price.
So basically if both consoles were 200$ and the PS3 would outsell the Xbox 360 one could claim the PS3 has a Blu-Ray player included, thus the comparism isn't fair.
"Yeah, if my Ferrari was as cheap as your Toyota it would definitely sell better!" Well, the Ferrari probably had 10 times the production costs and has way more value, but hey... 
Such a comparism is never "fair". There is always a reason one product is more expensive. So if you want to compare both consoles ask "what would they sell if they were both 200$ and the PS3 didn't have a Blu-Ray player?"
