Why is it when the 360 sales start to die off it is always a supply issue (look at the sales threads for the first half of 2008)? As long as we are speaking anecdotally, I was in a Gamestop and Best Buy yesterday and there were plenty of Pros/Arcades/PS3s.

Don't you think it is more likely that sales for the 360 are starting to stabilize after the massive price cuts last December? I think this is a major problem for the 360 because they can't just keep cutting the price to improve sales. Yes, I know MS has infinite resources, but price cuts can have a negative effect by diminishing perceived value of the system.
