1) That's exactly why it would be an amazing idea to have moderation feedback to users who use the report function. How else are we to know if what we did was too harsh, made a difference, was helpful, etc? Since this is a community driven site as you all seem to say, why is the community left in the dark in some of these moderation aspects? Hopefully this is something that will be changed in VGC2.0
2) Bah, just mod Soriku and there goes your entire theory. :P Seriously though, I don't expect you to see everything, but I just find that mods rely A LOT on users to report posts, way way way more than other sites such as IGN. I've pointed this out a few times in my posts I made in this thread, I hope you read them to understand my points better.
3) Like I said in #2, basically. I've just noticed that VGChartz relies very heavily on users reporting offenses instead of the mods doing almost all of the work themselves, which is how it is done on other sites that are even way bigger such as IGN. Do we see more abundant offenses on this site due to the nature of the site? That might explain why.
4) I've probably reported more people than 99% of the users on this site, I do it every time I see a blatant offense, which sadly, is quite often. I don't know where you got the idea that I'm some sort of lazy guy who can't do that, and I feel a bit offended that you would personally label me as such with no basis to stand that accusation on.
And you make the same point again and again, from your 2nd to 4th paragraph. I understand that the mods can't see everything and read every post, that wasn't my point. My point is that the mods seem to rely much more heavily on the users to report offenses than mods on other sites. I feel as if you have missed my point, I wish there was an easier way to convey it. It might be more helpful to get more mods in different time zones, and mod people who are on VGChartz more and look through many threads.
It also helps if mods are on more and read more threads. It's not like being a mod is a born privilage or something that shouldn't be taken from you. I believe that if a mod finds that he isn't on enough and doesn't have enough time to read through a number of threads, and make sure to read every post, then they probably shouldn't be a mod. There are plenty of users on this site who do indeed read through quite a number of threads a day and do read every post in them, so perhaps they would make valuable mods?
I understand if VGChartz is supposed to be an almost completely community driven forum where it's the members responsibility to report others and then the few mods are the ones who decide whether it's right to ban or not, but can't we get something in return for our services? Why would new users want to sign up if they know that half the time they need to be baby sitting and taking time away from their posting day to report others? There are plenty of sites where the users only have to worry about having fun and posting, and the mods take care of all the offenses. It might stop new people from signing up if they know they need to do the work themselves.
I have no idea how moderation on this site works differently from other sites, since I've been a part of none, but there is clearly a difference. I just thought it might be helpful to have more mods, but if this site is supposed to be a community driven site, then I see it is fairly clearly fine the way it is. I was just comparing it to other sites and noticed that this is definitely different.
It would be a good idea to make sure to get mods in all sorts of different time zones though, since it is a problem when it takes hours for any mod to sign on to stop a rampant spammer or troll.
