Got one once (almost two years ago) and the situation was fixed in a week. I receive a warranty extension for that. Never had any problem since then...
IMO, the (limited) fear of the RODD is not something that should stop you from buying the 360. About the noise : It is acceptable now that you can copy your games on the HD. |
the thing is, that you SHOULD be able to overheat it without breaking it. It should just shut off and tell you that you are a retard and that you need to move the console to a well ventilated area. Also, I do know a few people who have gotten the RRoD with the new systems, but it seems much much more restricted, not the pretty much guarantee that it was before.

Anyways, I believe the 3 year warranty for RRoD is still in affect (not sure) but so long as you are within the warrranty it will be repaird for free. Other issues are a standard 1 year warranty. When you get a unit back, you never know if it is yours or a new one. If they can fix it, then they'll fix it, but who knows. This is basically the standard for all repair centers. Your chances of it breaking down after a repair should be the same as if you bought the unit new.
