| BTFeather55 said: the hardware shortages durin Christmas 06 and 07 created intense demand for the wii among many people that knew nothing about what truely makes great games. notice the best games on the wii aren't the systems bestselling titles. Japan has largely woken up from this phenomenon except for a few weeks there following the dq x announcement and the lack of knowledge that the latest monster hunter was also coming to psp. the rest of the world will eventually follow suit unless some of their hc games attract a following something that the system's prior hc titles failed to do. WSR is also a big test to see if the newbies will buy something they think they already have. at any rate, nintendo can't afford to do a dog and pony show at the game conventions in 09 as they did in 08 with one core title and one game meant to sell because it has the word wii in the title if they want to remain dominant as they were. if they try that again their sales could fall off to gcn levels until new Mario, Zelda, and DQ come out. |
I'm not toing to reply...I'm not toing to reply...I'm not toing to reply...I'm not going to...oh, screw it.
Okay, so hardware shortages are what drives demand. The 360 and PS3 were initially in low supply, but by making the same number of consoles as they had been they met the demand shortly after the holidays ended. Nintendo, by contrast, increased its supply by a record (yes, record) amount, and it still took several years before you could walk into an American store and find one.
But evidently, despite record supply, demand was driven by...a lack of supply? Does that sound right to you?
Your second sentence shows your egocentrism. Just because you don't like something, doesn't mean the rest of us don't.
Next, if Japan has "woken up" and realized that the Wii has no good games, what does that say about the HD consoles, which are still outsold by the Wii there (and everywhere else...)?
As to your "WSR is also a big test to see if the newbies will buy something they think they already have" comment, I thought they were already buying all those "lolminigames"? Isn't that what your second sentence is about?
I'll let someone else point out gamers seem to prefer Animal Crossing/Wii Music, as compared to, say, Ninja Gaiden/Prince of Persia/many other big-name games.
