this is good news in the sense that it raises awareness for all those M-rated games out there. obviously, parents don't know what kind of games kids play if they've never tried out video games. the wii zapper is obviously not M rated, but it gives parents a taste.
but if parents are more knowledgeable about games, then guys like jack thompson wouldn't be able to garner so much momentum. the sensational distribes that thompson relies on is built on public's outrage, but if the public is actually informed, they will fade into the background as it becomes mere rambling.
that being said, the effect i believe is negligible. responsible parents will always be responsible and irresponsible parents will always be irresponsible, conservative ones will stay that way as will liberal ones. something like the Wii zapper isn't gonna change their behavior one iota.
the Wii is an epidemic.
