well, people without passports are considered contraband now, so yes, they keep people and things out. Or in, in the one case I saw border patrol going crazy looking under and in ever vehichle that left the US for canada. I guess there was a prison escape in Main at the time.
Personally, I just treat them politely, and hope they treat me politely.
