there is a good chance of that too, but honestly I don't know any parents who just buy a game in the first day for a kid unless they asked for it.

  • birthday
  • special occasion like first communion or confirmation (people actually get gifts for religious things like that)
  • kid asked for one game, they didn't have it (very likely with Gamestop if it's a new game), mother got another
  • kid is spoiled

I could probably come up with reasons all day why the kid might get a random gift

I agree with all those reasons for getting a random gift. my parents bought us a video game for easter once, but they bought it weeks before, not the day of.

Sure maybe there are some parents who would actually pay attention to what their kid is playing, see a similar game is coming out on a special occasion (or not), and then buy it on launch day, but the chances are slim. Now, if the game had been out for a month, and the parent was looking for a christmas gift, and the kid didn't like it, I could totally buy that no problem.

EDIT: either way, you get the same end results. Copies purchased because someone thought it was a FPS.

If you drop a PS3 right on top of a Wii, it would definitely defeat it. Not so sure about the Xbox360. - mancandy
