A little below what I expected, I wouldn't call them disappointing, though. Killzone 2 is not the PlayStation's Halo. Hell, apart from the fact that they are both FPS, they have nothing in common. It's like comparing Oblivion to Final Fantasy XII. Both are technically RPGs...

Anybody who thought this could sell even half of Halo 3's first week sales is extremely delusional. Halo did some 3.8 million first week. It did 900k in Europe, and yet some people stubbornly kept believing that Killzone 2 had 1.1 million preorders in Europe alone. Retailers!

I think it's a better game, but it won't sell more than half of what Halo 3 finishes at.

I read around Internet and there were actually people that believed that Killzone 2 could do a Halo 3 launch...

Well, considering Killzone 2's hype, I still don't see why it didn't sell 1 - 1.5M in its first week. Its hype matches SSBB's hype last year, and SSBB sold well over a million in its first week.

 

 

Hype is irrelevant if the install base isn't there to go for it.  KZ2 sold very well for a console with approx 20M install base and smaller user base focused on FPS (than the 360), particularly in the US where console FPS has the best market.

No amount of hype can make a game in those circumstances suddenly achieve amazing numbers.  It's just not possible.

Look at the install base for SSBB to hype to, or the attach rate for Halo on 360 and you'll see what I mean - in those cases the circumstances made the sales possible.

For KZ2 1M first week was an outside chance - a solid 700 K or so always looked more likely.



Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...
