You played as the kids in the first one too, so that shouldn't be too big of a problem.
As for the trailer, it seems to be coming along. There wasn't much new except for the kids and that big fish guy. The game still lookes like a combo of some nice art direction and some shoddy technical presentation. But I'm fairly optimistic now that they've delayed it.
