I think you misunderstood my point.
Microsoft (probably) didn't create disappointment since they (I assume) never implied the next Halo game would be a FPS by not declaring its genre. By analogy it wouldn't have been as big a problem if EA had announced this was an on-rails shooter right off the bat (which is what they should have done to avoid the negativity we're seeing now).
If Microsoft had done the same with Halo Wars, or if Killzone 3 was announced tomorrow and 2 weeks later announced to be a platformer, people would be rightly disappointed. But maybe asking for empathy from fanboys is too much?
