My first console was a Sony console. Every console I have ever owned, other than the Gameboy colour, is a Sony console. I have never seen better games on a console than on the PS2.
Who cares if they're first party or third party? The point is that they were there. However Sony did it, it got those games, and got them exclusively. It paid to do that.
How the hell is the first party offering not good?
-Team ICO: ICO, Shadow of the Colossus
-Naughty Dog: Crash (back when it was good), Jak, Uncharted
-Insomniac: Ratchet and Clank, Resistance
-Santa Monica: God of War
-Sony Bend: Syphon Filter
-Guerilla: Killzone
Not only the "gaming gods, who can do no wrong", Nintendo, can create a first party game, you know.
Nintendo pretty much had a tyranny when Sony came along. The N64 and PS1 were about equal in my eyes, but for whatever reason, Sony won. I don't know why people think Sony killed the Sega, Sega's consoles weren't exactly strong. They always finished behind Nintendo.
Then Nintendo got complacent, and released that atrocious GameCube. The PS2 was better in just about every way, it deserved to win that generation, because it had what was important: incredible games. Whether first party or third party, exclusive or multiplat, they were there.
No Sony console has ever failed on me, never have I been unhappy with my purchase of a Sony console. Sure, they don't "innovate", but innovation is overrated.
THAT is why I like Sony.
