Like I said, it is not the same thing. Most games nowadays have eternal spin, T-spins, and instant drops coded in. ALL of them have at least one of those.
Original Tetris did not.
Thus, it is NOT the same game.
Tetris is my favourite puzzle game by and far. And I like it a LOT more than Wii Sports. But I'm not going to foolishly try to come up with excuses as to why it should be a better-selling game. Especially since the experience is VASTLY changed depending on what system you play it on, even if the game itself is coded identically. You CAN'T tell me that playing with an analog stick on an Xbox is the same as playing with a keyboard, or on a DS with the classic D-pad and button config.
It's not the same game. Quit coming up with excuses and get over it.
