That could be done, I think, but I don't know how it would go over with the people playing the game. The "realistic" look of Twilight Princess was very much an effort to appeal to the western audience after TWW failed to live up to expectations. If the new game suddenly went "kiddy"... Well, I doubt they'd risk that. I personally think they should give the dual world trope a rest, as well.
Realistically, I expect Zelda Wii to have a visual style similar to TP - perhaps it will even be a sequel. I didn't care much for TP's character design so I hope I am wrong, but that's what I expect. What I would like is a 'dark', less deformed cel-shaded style, but there's not much chance of that, I'm afraid. Nintendo seems stuck with the TWW style for their artsy games, which is a shame because it's already been done so many times (even if it worked great in PH and TMC).
Oh, and that patent won't make the game any easier provided you have the strenght of will to not cheat if you do get stuck, in which case you probably would want it anyway.
