NY is only because they passed this lame law where if the seller has any advertisements for companies within the state then to sell a product on the internet to someone in that state they must collect sales tax. Amazon decided they couldn't be bothered to figure out if they were advertising for NY based companies so they just decided to tax NY no matter what.
