First of all I LOVE the makeover. That's why I joined. Your profile thingy is a little odd and different your forum format seems to have some stuff mirrored but that's okay (it's just confusing at first)

 I'd suggest a few affiliates and a more prominent reliable news section. Polls would be fun too.

 Long story short You're going in the RIGHT direction. keep it up. But don't alienate people just cause you want a different interface.
