There are no hidden costs, all the 360 models are functional and they don't require any other Microsoft accessories to work.

One of M$'s talking points is "with the superior online experience in XBL, you can connect with friends and be apart of one of the most diverse online communities" yadda yadda yadda. Try playing with your friend from across the street with simply an arcade model.
And when you realize you need to go out and get an HDD (a superbly overpriced one btw) don't forget to get that XBL subscription card.

Last I heard, it's possible to play online with the arcade model (correct me if I'm wrong).
A bigger HDD is not required for playing (heck, no HDD is required for playing), and I don't care about playing online with the 360 so I'm glad I'm not paying for it.

It's technically possible to play online with an Arcade model......after you've purchased an HDD. Despite the information for XBL only taking up minimal space, an HDD is REQUIRED to go online.
And sure, an HDD isn't reequired for playing, but 512 isn't enough. Installs, game saves, demos.....512 ain't gonna cut it

But ... it will get you online. It lets you see NXE and determine if you wanna go to the next level.
