My opinion? They want all of the consoles to cater exclusively to them first, with only token efforts directed at other groups. For whatever bizzare reason, they find the notion that Nintendo wants to include women, older males, etc. in gaming as deeply offensive. They want, in essence, more of the same.

So if the Wii had cutting-edge graphics, and fewer games targeted towards new and underserved gamers...

We'd have the Gamecube 2, with sales reflecting that.

I'd say they want a higher output of traditional titles, except that Nintendo's already released quite a few high-quality traditional titles for the system.

I'd say they want more "mature" titles from Nintendo, except it hasn't released those for the DS.

I don't have a good answer to your question, I'm afraid. Everything I can think of gets contradicted by another fact. In the end, it simply seems to me that many bloggers don't like what Nintendo is (i.e. a company that doesn't cater just to narrow tastes). But even THAT explanation isn't perfect, seeing as how few people have a problem with Nintendo's handhelds...

I'm just shooting from the hip here, but despite the DS's massive success, it's only the successor to previous massive successes.  In fact, it's seeing stronger handheld competition than Nintendo has ever had to face before.  The Wii, on the other hand, has brought Nintendo up from last place in incredibly dramatic fashion, putting the "hardcore" consoles to shame with the greatest of ease and reversing over a decade of slow declines in Nintendo's popularity.

The Wii is MUCH more of a threat to hardcore egos than the DS is.
